Community Voice - Lived Experience Peer Event

We have hosted peer events for adults with lived experience since November 2024. These are free events for all London residents. We host in person as well as hybrid events and local, national and international guest speakers participate. Our Black History Month celebration on 23rd October 2025 was an historic event held at Islington Town Hall, 150 people attended to pay tribute to former Mayor Valda Louise James, who was the first black female Islington councillor in 1986, and the first black mayor of Islington in 1988 to 1989, she was also a single parent and part of the Windrush generation, born in Jamaica. Advice Service

We provide a quality-assured, independent information and advice, we deliver this service with support from our partners. Our services are free. We provide support with welfare benefits form filling, undertake general benefit checks and benefit calculations to maximise income, support with grant applications for furniture, white goods, warm clothes, warm bedding, small household items, fuel vouchers, and food vouchers, and also advise on housing issues, debt management, and much more. Our Advice Team are based at the Islington Central Hub at 222 Upper Street, N1, every fortnight on Wednesdays from 10am to 4pm providing information and advice to residents. We also offer free private & confidential one-to-one advice sessions via booked appointments at Access Islington North Hub, 6-9 Manor Gardens, N7; Central Hub, 222 Upper Street, N1; and South Hub, Finsbury Library, 245 St. John’s Street, EC1V.

Women’s Group - Islington

We support women from all backgrounds, providing a safe space for women from diverse backgrounds to engage in open discussions and share their stories. We provide advice and support on how trauma impacts women, in particular with mental wellbeing, social isolation, loneliness, relationships and connectedness. We welcome women who are survivors of domestic violence and abuse, and those with past offending history, refugees, and asylum seekers, who need support with reintegration. Our Women’s Peer Support Group is free, and it is in partnership with Islington Council. The group is led by women, and all of the volunteers and guest speakers are also women. It is monthly on Tuesdays from 11:00am to 1:30pm. We also provide free lunch.

We have extended our free advice service of Community Voice - Lived Experience Peer Events, supporting vulnerable adults living in London, to also have a monthly workshop to support Islington residents to access information and gain new skills from various local and national advisers. We also take residents on social trips to reduce social isolation and loneliness. We encourage social and cultural engagement through activities. The next workshop is on Thursday, 6th November 2025, at 222 Upper Street, N1, 10:30 am to 2:30 pm, in partnership with University College London.
